At Mark W. Johnson, DDS, you never have to worry about “graduating” or “aging out” of our services. Our practice in Albuquerque cares for patients of all ages across central New Mexico, including Los Lunas, Grants, Edgewood, Bernalillo, and Rio Rancho. Our blend of conservative, compassionate, complete, and customized care resonates with generations of families. They trust their smiles to our dentist, Dr. Mark Johnson, and our skilled hygienists and staff. Just as our team operates as a family, we take pride in assuring our patients also feel like they are part of an extended family.
These relationships are built with time and the trust that accompanies professional, warm, and genuinely caring care. All patients, from infants to more experienced senior visitors, benefit from routine checkups. These checkups include both oral exams and cancer screenings, as well as professional cleanings by one of our personable and knowledgeable dental hygienists. Your needs for care and services also evolve as your overall health evolves.
In an ideal world, all patients would generally visit us starting at a very young age. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends babies’ mouths are checked by a dentist within the first year of life (or within six months of a tooth erupting, whichever milestone comes first). Such early visits are important and allow the child and parent or caregiver to get familiar with us. Since many instances of dental fear, anxiety, and phobia are rooted in early childhood experiences, familiarizing your child with our friendly faces and non-intimidating approach establishes a solid foundation for oral health. And oral health is so critical to overall health and wellbeing, especially during a child’s formative years.
We use a range of advanced technologies to support the most comfortable and fear-free experience possible, including an anesthetic that doesn’t require needles (The Wand®) and non-invasive scanners and intraoral cameras. During routine visits, scheduled at least once every six months, we can also discuss recommendations for preventive services, such as:
Grownups, too, must maintain regular checkups, screenings, and cleanings. If you have developed conditions that put you at increased risk of gum disease, tooth decay, oropharyngeal cancers, or other oral problems, we will want to examine your mouth more regularly. These risk factors include:
We demonstrate techniques to more effectively clean teeth and professional products that aid in maintaining great oral hygiene. Patients with active inflammation can also benefit from a deep cleaning (scaling and root planning, or SRP) during regular appointments. More advanced periodontal therapies may be needed if nonsurgical SRP does not fully heal damaged gums. Likewise, damage to the teeth can be resolved with a range of restorative treatments, from fillings to crowns. We emphasize tooth-preserving treatments — patients whose natural teeth cannot be preserved should promptly replace gaps in their smile. We’re happy to discuss your options for tooth replacement.
We look forward to adding you and your loved ones to the family! Contact us at(505) 926-5160 to schedule your appointment with Dr. Mark Johnson. We are also privileged to offer emergency dental services, as well as flexible financing and in-house dental benefits to remove barriers to your best and healthiest smile.
